On Tamara Geraldine, Writing a Book
I've been following threads in a mailing list (albeit passively) regarding Tamara Geraldine. She's writing a book, and a major publisher's going to publish her collection of short stories. Then out of nowhere a person claims that his or her book will be published much later, thanks to Geraldine's coming new book. Then flames, doubts, praises, skepticism and sad to say, also insults, start to pour.
What's wrong with public figures writing books? Some argue that it will "steal" the chances of "real writers" to publish their books. Some accuse the publishers for publishing their works because of the so-called celebrities popularity. Is it true?
I simply can't understand what the fuss is all about. I mean, they haven't even read Geraldine's book, yet! When you read it and deem it worthless, then of course, you're free to talk! Isn't it some kind of discrimination? Just because Tamara Geraldine is an artist, it doesn't mean that she can't write! I say, we'd better wait and see. Read her book first before giving foul comments!

Nggak ada salahnya sih celebrity nulis cerita... bagus malah. cuma mungkin yah buat sebagian orang kelihatan gak 'fair' karena mungkin ada penulis yang tulisannya sama bagusnya sama tulisan celebrity tapi penerbit milih tulisan si celeb... just because dia celeb. tapi ya gimana lagi? penerbit juga butuh duit. Dan dimana-mana nama celeb juga menjual. IMHO...., mbak.^_^
maybe they didn't realized that there is a huge market in Indonesia to become a writer, considering that the sale of books in Indonesia are very low comparing to amount of citizen here.
Or maybe they're just jealous...
Setuju! Don't judge a book by its cover. Don't judge a book by its writer (personality, status, profession, etc.) too. :)
it rings true for any profession, mau celeb kek, orang biasa, kalo bagus ya bagus, jelek ya jelek. :)
