Books I've Recently Read
Didn’t have the strength or enough determination to write or work yesterday. So I just read.
1. Raymond E. Feist’s Flight of the Nighthawks
Ah, the first book of a new trilogy! New heroes! The veterans from the previous trilogy (also from the Serpentwar! I can’t imagine Erik von Darkmoor is still alive!) can still be found in this book. Feist wrote quite a lot about one of my favorite characters, Caleb. Yippie! Talwin Hawkins also has a portion in this book. I also love this character. A new character emerges, and he is almost equal to Tomas, the Valheru! Wow! Hope is rising, for the unbreakable Talnoys seems to have their limitations. But the seemingly immortal enemy, Leso Varen, still lurks in the corner. Ugh. Ah well, that’s what you get if you make some of your characters immortal! (Pug, Nakor, Tomas, Miranda, and Magnus? Caleb?) All in all, I’m happy to be able to “escape” to Midkemia, once more.
2. Tetsuko Kuroyanagi’s Totto-Chan
A beautiful yet haunting book. Moving story. I was very emotional when I read this book. I cried when I read the ending, asking my partner, why oh why dreams and happiness won’t last forever? I can imagine how it feels, building a dream and then it shatters just like that. If it happened to me, maybe I wouldn’t be able to move on… Or maybe I’d become bitter. I wouldn’t know… God works in mysterious ways.
3. Enid Blyton’s Rahasia Rosie (forget the English title)
As usual, Blyton’s creation is full of subtle gender stereotypes, yet I still enjoy her writing.
4. Michael Rosen’s Clever Cakes
Hilarious, wicked, creative! I’ve loved Rosen’s works since I read his collected poems for children, Wouldn’t You Like to Know?

Totto-chan should be a Required Reading in schools if you ask me.
BTW, I finally read QLF.. late to the party, I know. In lieu of a full review, I'll just say that it's a solid first effort. Looking forward to read more from you! *wink*
